History

The Boston Knights was established as a social and athletic organization in 1961. Our membership of over three hundred currently spans five generations with ages ranging from 14 to 60.

Founded on the principle of independence and not-for-profit through self-sufficiency, we have survived the times using resources from our membership and a myriad of fundraising efforts. The Knights, through our coordination of social and athletic activities, have consistently played a major role in the development of the Chinese youth populace in and around the Greater Boston area. The Knights is the only club that has participated in both the North American Chinese Invitational Volleyball Tournament and the North American Chinese Basketball Tournament throughout the history of both tournaments.

Among our membership ranks are doctors, lawyers, CPA's, business entrepreneurs as well as community leaders. Together, we demonstrate to the Chinese youths of Boston that they can succeed if they stay in school and work hard. Our members volunteer their time to coach or referee at the Wang YMCA Chinatown Basketball League. Some members coach Collegiate Volleyball at the Division I and Division III level. We also sponsor career days to stress the importance and value of a good education. Most importantly, we try to teach our young members to be leaders. By providing our members the opportunity to make policies for the Club as Executive Committee members and to organize fundraising for Club events, we teach them skills, which they don't learn in school. Our older members are there to provide guidance and support.

Another fundamental Club goal has been to develop and foster endearing friendships among youths of similar heritage. This philosophy has been cultivated throughout our history and is by no means limited to the Boston Community. Our sponsorship and participation in athletic events has taken us near and far to the Chinese communities of Las Vegas, San Francisco, Toronto, Chicago, Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Montreal and New York City. Through these trips, our members have connected with Chinese culture from all parts of the continent.
